Cross Country Running

2009 Cross Country Team

The Cross-country team started their season back in September and trained four days a week in all sorts of weather conditions. The big Regional Cross-Country meet took place on October 14th at Sunnidale Park in warm weather (finally). Our 30 runners did their best to finish the course with their fastest time. All athletes represented Alcona Glen well and cheered on their team-mates along the course. In the end, we had four runners qualify for the County Meet at Mount St. Louis. The four girls did their best to put in good performances at the County race that had over 110 runners in each race, aw well as big hills and uneven terrain to make it a challenging course.

This year Alcona Glen undertook the tremendous task of organizing and running the Regional Cross-Country Meet, which had 16 schools participate and over 600 runners attend. Mr. Miles' class, along with other Grade 8 volunteers, helped marshal the course, run the finish, and organize the final standings for each race. Mr. Beauchamp would like to extend a huge thank you to all the Grade 8's that helped run the event and the Alcona Glen runners; Mr. Mills and Mr. Miles for setting up and taking down the flag; and Mr. Potts and other staff members that helped in a variety of ways. The event was a huge success, thanks to the great character and effort of our athletes, staff, and student volunteers.
