Girls on the Run/Girls on Track

 
 
 

Girls on the Run Simcoe county uses the power of running to change the way girls see themselves and their opportunities! It is an innovative health education and wellness program that uniquely combines training for a 5k run/walk event with life-changing, self esteem enhancing lessons that encourage healthy habits and an active lifestyle in 8-14 year old girls. Girls learn to stretch themselves - physically, mentally, socially, and emotionally - and in the process, are inspired to a lifetime of self respect and healthy living.

Girls on The Run Program:

  • Is an experiential learning program for 3rd to 5th grade girls
  • Has an innovative curriculum designed exclusively for pre-teen girls
  • Includes warm-ups, running workouts and games which teach important skills such as how to make healthy decisions and how to resolve conflicts
  • Challenges and encourages the girls, whatever their fitness level
  • Prepares the girls for a 5K walk/run event and
  • Provides positive peer group experiences and role models for healthy living

Girls on Track Program:

  • Uses the "Girls on the Run" model, but focuses on issues of importance to 6th to 8th grade girls
  • Includes lessons on healthy relationships, avoidance of tobacco, drugs and alcohol, eating disorders and personal safety
  • Supports the girls in their transition into their teenage years
  • Focuses on healthy body image and high self-esteem and
  • Prepares the girls for a 5K run/walk event
